Fidelity Clearing Canada, or FCC for short, is a major business unit within Fidelity Canada that provides clearing, custody, and trade execution services to the financial services industry. FCC works as an intermediary between buyers and sellers, processing and settling securities transactions, and safeguarding client assets. It’s also a great place for Fidelity co-op students to gain valuable experience within the financial services industry. On today’s episode, host Tamara Radocaj sits down with Ryan Muhammad, Director of Finance at FCC, and Courtney Johnson, Team Manager Operations at FCC, to discuss their career journeys within the organization, and share advice for students. Ryan talks about his career journey from accounting to corporate finance, highlighting the differences between the investment and clearing sides of the business, and Courtney shares her experience starting as a co-op student at Fidelity and ultimately progressing to a management role, sharing the support and career development opportunities she was able to benefit from at Fidelity.

Christina Barr, Campus Relations Manager at Fidelity, joins the show today to talk about Fidelity’s student program, sharing the qualities Fidelity looks for in student candidates, and the benefits of the program for students and the company. Christina and host Tamara Radocaj discuss the ways in which Fidelity aims to recruit students from various backgrounds and experience levels, and how co-op students are encouraged to explore different areas of the business during their work terms. Christina highlights the collaborative culture at Fidelity, and the opportunities for students to work on real projects and gain exposure to different parts of the organization. Host Emily Anonuevo speaks with Tracy Wong, VP of sales and consultant relations, and Agnes Doherty, VP of Regional Sales for Ontario, who discuss the significance of the day and their career journeys. Tracy and Agnes reflect on the progress made for women in the financial services industry, and speak about the work that is still to be done to achieve gender equality. They talk about the importance of mentorship and allyship in supporting women’s career advancements, and share some advice they would give to their younger selves, along with the strengths and skills they have built up throughout their careers that have contributed to their success.
