  • Nikki Mills & Jess Lambert: The one with the Live Studio Audience!
    May 22 2025

In ep 122 of “How Do You Say That?!” sponsored by britishvoiceover.co.uk, we depart from our usual format a little - and record as-live from One Voice 25 in London with TWO guests! Nikki Mills and Jess Lambert join Sam and Mark to read two very different scripts. We head to Wales for a battle of wills with a doctor's receptionist and get a French take on a mysterious evil character. This week the wildcard suggestions come from our studio audience.

Our VO question this week is also suggested by one of our voiceover colleagues in the audience - what tips can you give to ensure a long and successful voiceover career.

Get involved! Have you got a Wildcard suggestion that we should try or an idea for the show? Send it to us via Mark or Sam's social media or email it directly to podcast@britishvoiceover.co.uk

    Script 1

I went to the doctors’ surgery,

    because I needed more pregabalin.

    But her behind reception says,

‘I am sorry lovely… but you ain’t havin’ em!’

But I’ve used up all my packet,

    things didn’t go to plan,

so I had to borrow some,

    off my aunty from Cwmbran.

    But her behind reception says,

‘the doctor’s cut your script in half.

She thinks you are misusing them,

doctor thinks you’re avin’ a laugh!’

I need them for my nerves I do,

It’s not like I’ve got an addiction,

Just tell the doctor, will you please,

that I NEED MY COWING PRESCRIPTION!

    Script 2

She hungers for more than sunlight, chevalier. She craves the crimson nectar of life. Your blood will make her bloom in splendor. Just a taste, and she will coil around you, devouring your essence until you are nothing more than a husk, crumbling like leaves in autumn’s grasp

    Script 1

An orphan brought up in the slums of Big-city, Eartha had to fight all her life to make it to the top of the heap. Her first memory is of being stuffed in a sack and tossed into the river. She managed to rip her way out, and since then, she has had to fight for everything she owns. She now performs in her own Jazz club in the heart of Big-city, where she’s created a community of sorts with all the “Unwanted” of society. The only way past Kittty is through her heart. Fiercely independent, she is a strong, fierce individual without patience for injustice.

Interior night, Kitty Cat Club Cabaret, Eartha’s dressing room.

Hello ? Whoever you are, don’t just stand outside, come on in. Don’t be shy... I can hear you... wantin’, waitin’, wastin’, behind my door, so... (She sighs) Just come in and get it over with. I won’t bite... Well, let’s just say I might not. (Door opens) Oh... oh my... well, that is a surprise... (She recovers) What ? No flowers ? Oh well... Don’t just stand there, like a wet dog... Get in the light so I can see you better... Aow, You haven’t changed. May-be a bit thicker around the waist, a bit greyer around the whiskers, a bit sadder around the eyes... (She sighs) and while I rush to sieve the sands of time from your face, you’re busy doing the same right back at me, aren’t you ? (she smiles and does a turn) Well Captain, what’s the verdict ? Huh? (Silence)

    (She sings )

“In them days / that rimed always, / til that day, / that stole away... my heart...”

    (A sad chuckle)

What do you want Captain ? Why are you here after all these years, after all this silence? Cause I don’t think it’s to hear me sing ?
