Welcome to ‘If Taps Can Talk’ hosted by Thomas 'Crossy' Crosse, where he grabs a pint and sits down with storytellers, pioneers and outspoken individuals. In each episode, Crossy travels to some of Ireland’s most iconic pubs, from Shoot the Crows in Sligo Town to Sin-é in Cork to have intimate chats with special guests.

Recorded in The Oval, considered one of the city’s greatest pubs, Chris tells Crossy about his journey from hard-working electrician to becoming a stand-up sensation. He talks about the challenges of constantly touring across Ireland, his love of pubs for building life-long friendships and how he managed to give up all his digital devices, despite his busy schedule.     Established in the late 18th century, Grogan’s now welcomes the loyal regulars, the hipsters and curious tourists alike, serving hundreds of pints and countless toasties every single day. Joining Crossy on today’s episode is someone who embodies the spirit of community far beyond these historic walls. DJ, activist, dog lover, and devoted Beamish drinker, Calvin James Sweeney isn’t just a regular here—he’s a man making a genuine impact in the world. Calvin began his journey spinning tunes in gritty New York dive bars, before taking his talent globally. But his story doesn’t stop at music.


    As an outstanding humanitarian, Calvin has dedicated himself to aiding the most vulnerable in war-torn regions across the globe. From Cambodia, India, Iraq and Yemen, he spent six months as a medic in wartorn Syria. His efforts have changed lives - he’s built schools, ambulances, and hospitals, crossed borders under cover, while rescuing both desperate refugees and stranded pets from the chaos of conflict.     This week Crossy is joined by Karla Chubb, lead singer of Sprints.


    As the frontwoman and songwriter for the celebrated Irish garage punk band Sprints, Karla Chubb has firmly established herself as a commanding voice in the genre. Known for her raw, unfiltered lyrics and electrifying stage presence, Karla has become a key figure in the Irish punk revival, spearheading the band into the charts with their fearless energy and uncompromising sound. Over the past few years, Sprints have shared the stage with acclaimed acts such as The Gossip, Idles, Suede and Fontaines DC.


    Beyond the music, Karla is a passionate advocate for LGBTQ+ visibility, mental health awareness, and the transformative power of art as a form of resistance. Later this year, Karla and Sprints are set to release the follow-up to their debut album and will soon embark on a European tour.


    Recorded in the intimate setting of Sin É, surrounded by the pub’s rich musical legacy, Crossy chats about Karla’s personal journey, the inspirations behind her creativity, and her thoughts on the importance of speaking out—both on and off the stage.
