Welcome to The Kids Were Alright: A Women's Football History. Each week we will spotlight the pioneers and analyse the events that made women's football what it is today. You'll hear from inspiring women who made history in the game and from expert historians to give the context to those events. In this episode, Laura Howard speaks to Kerry Davis and charts her pioneering career, featuring a number of landmarks. Davis became the first Black woman to represent the Lionesses in an official international in 1982 and later became the record goalscorer with 43 goals in 90 games, the best goals-to-games ratio among England women's top five all-time goalscorers. She also featured in the first women's Euros finals in 1984 and England's first World Cup in 1995 and won a league and cup double with Croydon in1996. Laura also speaks to Dr Gary James to learn more about the social and historical context surrounding Davis' career.
