Acerca de esta escucha
We had a nice stretch of May weather round here with overnight lows in the high 60s and afternoons peakin' in the upper 80s Skies have been mostly clear with a light south breeze most mornings not much rain lately which has kept the water pretty stable Lake level’s sittin' about 0.4 feet above pool and the water temperature is runnin' between 69 and 78 degrees dependin' on where you are Early risers got out ahead of a beautiful sunrise at 6:19 am and sunset tonight is at 8:20 pm
No tide to worry about but fish activity’s been classic post-spawn with a heavy shad spawn at first light That means bass are feedin’ up shallow and they’re real active in the mornings Topwater is on fire right now The frog bite in shallow grass and pondweed is puttin' up some quality largemouth Throwin' diesel chatterbaits and small spinnerbaits in shad spawn areas near points is gettin' hammered Look for herons and birds workin' the banks and you’ll likely find the fish
By mid-mornin’ when the sun’s up pull out your soft plastics Flukes and wacky-rigged Yum Dingers are good around grass edges and shallow timber in 1 to 3 feet of water Once things heat up further don’t be afraid to move deeper Carolina rigs and crankbaits like the XD 5 or XD 6 are gettin’ bit in 5 to 16 feet on main lake and secondary points Bass are fair to good most days with lots of two to four pounders caught and several reports of bigger fish over seven pounds this week
Crappie action is pickin' up too with numbers of small black crappie stackin' up on brush piles laydowns bridges and docks Bigger white crappie are movin' out to deeper trees 10 to 30 feet but they’re a bit tricky to spot with all the fry in the water Still minnows and colored jigs are workin' well
Other species catfish are shallow in two to four feet channel cats are cruisin' the flats and will take fresh cut bait or live worms Bream are movin’ up shallow too and wooly buggers or red worms will fill a bucket in the creeks
For hot spots try the points in Little Caney and the shallow flats around the 515 West bridge in the mornings Also hit the main lake points near SRA and the old 2946 bridge mid-mornin’ for bass If it’s crappie you want hit the brush piles off the west arm and the timber off Chaney Branch
That’s your Lake Fork report for today folks Take advantage of the active bite and enjoy the best of late spring fishing Good luck and I’ll see y’all on the water
