    Jun 27 2025

Litter On The Breeze - the podcast about the music, the stories and the fans of the band Suede - returns with a lengthy discussion with the one and only David Barnett! Yes, he of the 'Love and Poison' book, the band's inner circle for many years, and all round chap.

The discussion takes in diaries, The Chart Show, and whether or not certain handclaps are audible...

The very topics that all good chats cover!

    Show Notes:

Here's the relevant 'The Chart Show' Indie Chart from May 1992. This should provide quite the Proustian Rush for many of you!

The recent interview about 'Dog Man Star'

  • Definitely not The London Suede - with Ned Raggett
    Jun 6 2025

Litter On The Breeze - the podcast about the music, the stories and the fans of Suede - returns with an episode in which we make another journey Across The Pond, on this occasion to spend time with the writer, thinker and all-round great guy Ned Raggett. We hear about how he became a Suede fan in the States, the things he had to do to be able to remain a Suede fan in the States, some of his dealings with the band, and helps us pose a question that only you can answer!

(The podcast begins with me giving my views on Suede being on the bill at Radio 2 In The Park, should that mean anything to you!)

    Show Notes:

Here's the 2013 Quietus article where a lot of the stories in this episode come from.

Some more on the KROQ Weenie Roast. Although not how it got its name - thankfully.

  • The art of making 'Silhouettes' and covering Suede
    May 30 2025

Litter On The Breeze - the podcast about the music, the stories and the fans of Suede - returns with an episode in which the music of Suede provides the template for fans to tell their own stories! Today we are joined by Mylle Fournier and James Youngjohns, creators of the magnificent 2021 release 'Silhouettes', in which six Suede songs are re-imagined to wonderful effect. We hear about how the idea to make the record came about, the song selection process, and the ease (or otherwise!) of putting the whole thing together remotely. Plus plenty more Suede stories!

We recommend listening to the record before diving into this podcast, and it can be found in full, for streaming or free download, right here

    Show Notes:

Here's 'Fell In Love' by our friend Mark Fernyhough, with Mylle on harp!

  • The 'Head Music' Era - Suede in 1999
    May 2 2025

Litter On The Breeze - the podcast about the music, the stories and the fans of Suede - returns with our longest ever episode! Thanks to the extra time made available by amending the podcast plan with our friendly hosts Buzzsprout, we have been able to give you two shows in one today - all focused on the Head Music -era and where the band were in 1999!

In the first half of the programme, you will hear me in conversation with my friend Jesper - where topics such as Suede's continued popularity in Europe and Is 'Elephant Man' Good? come up, in addition to looking at the singles from the album plus some other stuff besides!

After that, the ever-popular 'The Cover Of A Magazine' feature returns, as I rifle through the pages of Melody Maker dated 3/4/99 to look at two Suede articles at what they tell us about the band at the time. This of course includes a personal story about buying a MiniDisc Player... Also, there's time to talk a bit about Echo & The Bunnymen, Orbital, dEUS and...umm..Stereophonics!

    Show Notes:

    • Here's a link to the edition of 'Music Week' which espouses Melody Maker's sorry circulation figures - and the article describing their change to a glossy magazine style format. What could possibly go wrong?
    • And here's the episode of 'Chart Music' with Sarah Bee and the late, great Neil Kulkarni talking about MM's last days..
    • UK Top 100 in the week 'Electricity' rubbed shoulders with The Cartoons and 'ABBA All-Stars...

  • In Search Of... Suede - with Lily Moayeri
    Apr 25 2025

Litter On The Breeze - the podcast about the music, stories and the fans of Suede - returns for a chat with none other than Billboard, SPIN, LA Times and many other places writer, Lily Moayeri! We talk about how her career in music journalism began, her predilection for British bands which itself comes from a very moving back story, the efforts she went through to talk to Suede for the first time and her many dealings with the band since!

    Show Notes:

    • As promised, here is a link to Lily's podcast archive. I highly recommend you listen to the interview with Brett that you'll find on the first page...and then listen to the rest! You'll be able to find access to her interview archive and newsletter from there too.
    • 'Can't Be Sure'. I'd have played the whole song if I could. A worthy winner of the 1989 Festive Fifty. If only more people had bought the thing..
    • Here's 'Because The Night' from the BBC Radio 2 Piano Room. Mercifully superior to Jan Wayne's version. If you don't know what I'm talking about, you're lucky...
