  • How the Gazelle Won His Wife
    Jun 2 2025

"The Gazelle's Clever Hunt: A Marriage Test in the Forest"

In this witty African folktale, a determined gazelle sets out to find a wife and meets a beautiful young woman. When the girl's mother demands an impossible bride price—the dried flesh of every animal and bird in the forest—the gazelle must rely on his cunning rather than strength.

Creating a "powerful hunting fetish," the gazelle devises an ingenious trick. He convinces animals seeking hunting success—from the gullible dove to the mighty buffalo and even the fearsome lion—that they must first be killed, roasted, and dried before learning his hunting secrets, promising to restore them to life afterward.

One by one, each animal falls for his deception, willingly sacrificing themselves in their desperate desire for hunting prowess. The gazelle systematically collects their dried meat until he has fulfilled the mother-in-law's seemingly impossible task.

Join us for this amusing tale of wit trumping strength, as we explore themes of cleverness, determination, and the sometimes ridiculous lengths we'll go to for love—all while seeing how even the mightiest creatures can be undone by their own desires and gullibility.

  • Tanga, the Child of Night
    Jun 1 2025

"The Moonlight Daughter: A Tale of Forbidden Daylight"

In this enchanting African folktale, we follow the extraordinary journey of Tanga, a child born from sorrow and moonlight. When a childless woman is abandoned by her cruel husband, a magical wagtail appears during her riverside vigils, promising her a daughter of unparalleled beauty—with one condition: the child must never step into daylight.

Under her mother's devoted care, Tanga flourishes into a stunning young woman whose beauty draws her repentant father back, along with numerous suitors. After marrying a worthy young man, Tanga's happiness is threatened by her vindictive father-in-law who, suspicious of her nocturnal nature, forces her into daylight while her husband is away.

The moment Tanga steps outside, she is captured by the possessive Water Spirit and held beneath the river. Her only connection to land becomes her nightly reunions with her infant son, until her husband discovers her fate. After a failed rescue attempt turns the river blood-red, it takes the determination of a rooster messenger and her mother's powerful magic to break the Water Spirit's hold and reunite Tanga with her loving family.

Join us for this mesmerizing tale about forbidden boundaries, maternal devotion, and the triumph of love over supernatural forces.

  • The Frog and the Chameleon
    May 31 2025

"The Patient Chameleon: Triumph of Quiet Diligence"

In this delightful African folktale, we follow the unlikely friendship between a boastful frog and a humble chameleon who decide to seek wives together. After marrying two sisters, their contrasting approaches to work and life are put to the test.

The frog demands numerous tools and constantly brags about his supposed hard work, returning home covered in mud to maintain his deception. Meanwhile, the patient chameleon quietly toils in his fields without fanfare, facing mockery and disdain from his in-laws who believe the frog's malicious gossip.

When harvest time arrives, the truth is spectacularly revealed. The frog's fraud is exposed when his mother-in-law discovers he never planted anything, while the chameleon's magnificent harvest and seven-story home demonstrate the power of genuine effort and humility. The disgraced frog flees into the forest, while the chameleon inherits both wives and lives prosperously.

Join us for this timeless tale about the rewards of authentic work, the emptiness of boastfulness, and how patience ultimately prevails over deception.
