The Philadelphia Phillies’ winning streak was halted at nine-straight after taking a 5-4 loss to the A’s Sunday afternoon.

Trea Turner’s solo homer in the top of the 8th gave the Phillies a 4-3 lead, putting the Phillies in line for a 10th consecutive victory. But the A’s had other ideas.

In the bottom of the 8th, after seven strong innings from Jesus Luzardo, the Phils gave the ball to Matt Strham. He went on to allow two runs on 2 hits and a walk, giving the A’s a 5-4 lead. Mason Miller cam on to pitch the top of the 9th, and unlike his two previous appearances in this season, closed the door on the Phillies.

Luzardo gave up three runs in the first inning, then went on to toss six scoreless innings after that with a total of 10 strikeouts while throwing 105 pitches. .

The bats failed to have a big inning, but did drive in a run in four separate innings. The Phillies’ best chance for a breakout inning came in the 2nd when they took three straight walks to load the bases with no outs. A’s starter Gunnar Hoglund then got J.T. Realmuto ground into a 6-4 double play before Alec Bohm flied out to center to end the threat.

Trea Turner led the Phillies’ offensive efforts with three RBIs including his 4th homer of the season. Realmuto and Bryce Harper both went 0-for-4 in the loss.
