Sentence
A sentence is a group of words that expresses a complete idea. It contains a subject (S) and a verb (V).
The Basic Elements of a Sentence
A sentence has two basic elements: the subject and the predicate. The subject is a noun, a pronoun, or a group of words acting as a noun. It is what the entire sentence is about. The predicate contains a verb that describes the subject.
Subject
The subject is a noun, noun phrases, or pronoun. Usually, it comes before the main verb. It represents the person or thing about which something is stated.
Predicate
Predicate can either describe an action that the subject is performing, or a state of being that the subject is experiencing.
Examples
1. He/ runs
2. This book/ is heavy
3. I and my friend/ went to the market
4. My dog/ may bite strangers
5. Venus/ is the hottest planet in the solar system
Subject-verb agreement means using the right version of the verb to agree with the subject.
