  • April 27th, 2025 - 1 John 1:1 – 2:2 "Alluring Distractions" - Pastor Erin Bovendam - Calvary Lutheran Church
    Apr 27 2025

In a world filled with uncertainty and darkness, the apostle John reminds us of a truth that is unshakable: Jesus Christ, the Word of Life, has been revealed to us. In 1 John 1:1 – 2:2, we are invited to walk in fellowship with God by walking in the light — a life of honesty, repentance, and grace. This passage calls us to examine how we live, to confess our sins, and to trust in the faithful forgiveness of Christ, who is our Advocate before the Father. Join us as we explore how true fellowship with God and with each other can only be found through the cleansing power of Jesus' sacrifice.

Come ready to be encouraged, challenged, and renewed by the assurance that even when we stumble, we have a Savior who speaks for us and calls us back into the light.

    Prayer of the Day

O God of life, you reach out to us amid our fears with the wounded hands of your risen Son. By your Spirit’s breath revive our faith in your mercy and strengthen us to live as your people in this world, through your Son, Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen.

  • SERMON PODCAST - Luke 24:1-12 "He Is Risen: The Empty Tomb and the Power of Belief" April 20th, 2025 - Pastor Eric Clapp - Calvary Lutheran Church Perham MN
    Apr 21 2025

    Easter Sunday

In this powerful Easter message, Pastor Eric walks us through Luke 24:1–12, where the women arrive at Jesus’ tomb at dawn, only to find the stone rolled away and the body gone. As confusion sets in, two angels appear and remind them of Jesus’ promise: “He is not here; He has risen.” Pastor Eric reflects on the courage of the women, the initial doubt of the disciples, and the wonder of Peter as he races to the tomb. This passage challenges us to confront our own doubts and embrace the life-changing truth of the resurrection. Through Pastor Eric’s message, we’re reminded that faith often begins where certainty ends—and that the empty tomb is not the end of the story, but the beginning of eternal hope.

Prayer of the Day God of mercy, we no longer look for Jesus among the dead, for he is alive and has become the Lord of life. Increase in our minds and hearts the risen life we share with Christ, and help us to grow as your people toward the fullness of eternal life with you, through Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen.

  • SERMON PODCAST April 17th, 2025 - John 13.1-15, 34-35 Maundy Thursday Homily "Living Jesus' Love " - Pastor Erin Bovendam - Calvary Lutheran Church
    Apr 18 2025

Maundy Thursday Homily by Pastor Erin Bovendam Calvary Lutheran Church Perham MN US

Pastor Erin reflected on how Jesus’ act of washing the disciples’ feet is a vivid, living example of what it means to bear the fruit of the Spirit (Galatians 5:22–23) in real life.

Though John’s Gospel doesn’t list the fruit of the Spirit explicitly, Pastor Erin showed how Jesus models each of those qualities through His humble, loving service:

    • Love – Jesus loves His disciples “to the end,” even knowing their flaws and betrayals.
    • Gentleness – He kneels to wash their feet, gently caring for them like a servant.
    • Patience & Kindness – He doesn't scold or shame; He serves, even those like Judas and Peter.
    • Faithfulness – Jesus stays true to His mission and His love, even in His final hours.
    • Self-Control – Though He is Teacher and Lord, He restrains power to uplift others.

Pastor Erin encouraged the congregation to see that living out the fruit of the Spirit means taking on the posture of a servant, just like Jesus. It’s not about status, pride, or comfort—it’s about love expressed through action, especially when it's inconvenient or undeserved.

She invited everyone to ask: “Whose feet is Jesus calling me to wash?” In other words, where can I show love, humility, and Spirit-led kindness in my everyday life?
