Title: S4EP5, Kidnapped by his father at 3, then orphaned, and yet, STILL MAKING A DIFFERENCE with Ed Hajim Summary: I could not put down either of Ed Hajim's books, "On the Road Less Traveled," and "the Island of the Four P's." Ed's story can not be put into words and yet, Ed did. His father kidnapped him, told him his mother was dead, and then left him with neighbors. He was in the foster care system, orphanages, and left alone for a month at the age of 11. Here's the amazing part. Ed did not get bitter. He used his experiences to develop resilience and adaptability which served him for the rest of his life. That together with his "absent" father's unconditional love and positive reinforcement kept him headed towards success. Ed had a dream to be successful, create a loving family and help people be better than they think they can be. His career will impress and astound you. His generosity will inspire you. I believe we can all learn from Ed's story and wisdom. He is now helping 17 to 25 year olds learn how to make decisions and design their lives with his new course. Thank you, Ed, for the amazing person you are and please thank Barbara for chasing after you and being your P1 for life. BIO ED HAJIM is the author of the critically acclaimed memoir, On The Road Less Traveled. The son of a Syrian immigrant, he is a seasoned Wall Street executive with more than 50 years of investment experience. In 2008, after 20 years as a trustee of the University of Rochester, Hajim began an eight-year tenure as chairman of the university’s board. Upon assuming that office he gave the school $30 million—the largest single donation in its history—to support scholarships and endow the Edmund A. Hajim School of Engineering and Applied Sciences. Through the Hajim Family Foundation, he has made generous donations to organizations that promote education, health care, arts, culture, and conservation. In 2015, he received the Horatio Alger Award. Title: S4EP3, Reinventing Themselves at 60 and 93, An Amazing Mother and Daughter Conversation with Amy Goober and Gwen Borden Summary: Amy Goober and Gwen Borden wrote a book together. Why is that interesting? Because Gwen is Amy’s mother. Amy was always quoting her mother and decided to let the world benefit from her wisdom. Their book is called, "My Mother Always Says," 25 lessons for Finding the Silver Lining. It's a great gift for Mother's Day for mothers, daughters, sisters and friends. Amy Goober, Gwen's daughter, has used her mother’s strength, fortitude and wisdom in her own life and with her coaching clients. . Amy also re-invented herself many times and now runs Travel for Women, writes books, and creates connections for women. She borrowed her mother’s strong will and made sure their book got published. Title: Are You a Good Listener? You Might Be Surprised with Christine Miles, S4EP2 Summary: "What is it Costing You Not to Listen," Christine Mile's first book, literally changed my life. 96% of us think we are good listeners and given what we know about listening, that makes sense. But, given what we don't know about listening, it means our lives could work 1000% better. The old, we don't know what we don't know. Christine's book addresses the problem that we don't even know we have. Listening is the most powerful underdeveloped skill, according to Christine. She focuses on understanding and Story Gathering. Christine developed the Listening Path which she is bringing into schools across the world. She is training young people to be better learners and leaders. She has worked with companies, helping them to be more effective, successful, and better places to work. Her mission is to eliminate the divisive and polarizing discourse in the country. Through her program, the world can be a more inclusive, powerful, and focused place. Christine's own story is powerful, inspiring and uplifting. She can be found at thelisteningpath.com and christinemileslistens.com. S4EP1, Showing People He Is Not Broken with Sam Mitchell Summary: I learned so much about people in my interview with Sam Mitchell. He is a 22 year old, motivational speaker, entrepreneur, blogger, podcaster, educator and has done a Tedex talk. Sam is a high functioning human being on the autism spectrum with a mission: to show people that people with autism are not broken. He has spoken all over the world, demonstrating his success and educating people about autism. Sam taught me that you can ask questions and there is a diference between a temper tantrum and a meltdown. He teaches law enforcement personnel how to work with autistic people. He says there are signs. It's obvious. Thank you, Sam for the work you are doing.
