88: The ‘guerilla gardeners’ behind a wildflower makeover of a local roundabout… and more

    For Saturday 17th May 2025

This is how we’re reflecting and celebrating our love of life around here this week:

    TIMECODE -

    00:00 - What’s in this episode.

04:55 - Planet Reigate area news and weather

17:20 - The Good Time Guide: things to do and places to go

29:00 – GUESTS: This week hear from some of the residents who have taken over the management of… their local roundabout!

People living in Horley have raised money and raised their garden spades, to transform a large drab, overgrown and unloved piece of land, into a wildlife haven, full of colour and teeming with life.

We went down to a recent plating project to catch up with some of the guerrilla gardeners and hear of their motivation and success – and what it will look like as spring turns to summer.

44:00 – Reigate Roulette. A local resident tells us what they love most about living around here.

47:30 – Planet Reigate Stars: thanking local heroes. This week, praise for those who gave ‘help on the Hill’.

49:00 - The Sixty-second Soundscape. This week, Mill Hill Lane in Brockham.

87: Reigate Dambuster hero and the local composer of the most-famous VE Day march that you *do* know… and more

    For Saturday 10th May 2025

This is how we’re reflecting and celebrating our love of life around here this week:

    TIMECODE -

    00:00 - What’s in this episode

05:15 - Planet Reigate area news

13:45 - The Good Time Guide: things to do and places to go

23:20 – Planet Reigate Stars: thanking local heroes. This week, praise for those who rushed to help in Redhill

28:10 – Reigate Roulette. A local resident tells us what they love most about living around here.

32:10 – The story of Reigate’s very own Dambuster hero, Michael Fuller, who went from Post Office phone engineer to a member of the valued 617 Squadron and whose mission was turned into a war movie. Who he was, the life he led, and how he died a hero on foreign soil.

And we pay a special tribute to a Reigate musician Frederick Ricketts – who died 80 years ago this coming week in 1945, and who composed many of the marches that you will have heard in this week’s VE Day commemorations. He was also the man behind perhaps the most famous war-time march ever and whose tune you know so well today.

47:10 - The Sixty-second Soundscape. This week, the station at Earlswood
