Over a series of fall nights 120 years ago, several of the most prominent men of Van Meter, Iowa made the astonishing claim that a half human, half animal with enormous bat-like wings was terrorizing the small community from the air. Its horrendous stench stench and ability to emit a high intensity light from its forehead scared the daylights out of them as well as the fact it moved crazy fast.
