  • 323: Becoming an author, mother, and leader in veterinary medicine

    Lynsey Victoria Rinelli, DVM, is an emergency veterinarian in Paramus, NJ. A Wagner College graduate with a BS in Biology and major in Psychology. After her time at Ross University and clinical year at LSU, she traveled to Alaska. There she participated in the aid of canine racers in the Willow 300. She is now focused on emergency surgery, physical rehabilitation, and exotic animal medicine.
    She has published her first children’s book as a memoir to moms in the postpartum period. Celebrated on Staten Island Live, she was able to express the inspiration for that dedication to her daughter, Gracelyn. Her second book was celebrated in November 2024 in order to help families process pet loss around the world. She has sent her book to over 80 clinics across the US and Canada.
    Working with families during their most pivotal moments. "Goodbye for Now" was born. She has officially become the first author in her family in 2024; celebrating a NYC big book award distinguished favorite and Independent press award winner in multiple categories this May.

    Kelly Mitchell DVM, DVSc, BSc, DACVIM (SAIM) received her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from the Western College of Veterinary Medicine (University of Saskatchewan), followed by a one-year rotating internship in Small Animal Medicine and Surgery at the Atlantic Veterinary College (University of Prince Edward Island). She completed her Small Animal Internal Medicine Residency and Doctor of Veterinary Science degree at the Ontario Veterinary College (University of Guelph). She is also a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine (SAIM).

    Mitchell worked in private referral practice prior to joining Antech Consultation Services in 2017. In September 2021, she became Director of Consultation Services, North America. Mitchell has authored and co-authored several book chapters, publications, and abstracts, and is a frequent lecturer.

  • 321: AI literacy for veterinarians: Why staying informed matters

    Christopher Pinard, DVM, DVSc, DACVIM (Oncology), is a clinician scientist and medical oncologist at Lakeshore Animal Health Partners, adjunct professor at the University of Guelph, and CEO of ANI.ML Health Inc. ANI.ML Health integrates AI and spatial computing to enhance veterinary care, launching Hachiko in 2025—a first-of-its-kind veterinary medical record summarizer.

    His research focuses on AI-driven biomarkers for canine and feline cancers, leveraging machine learning for comparative oncology. He explores spatial computing, 3D modelling, and AI to improve patient outcomes.

    Pinard has co-authored multiple AI-focused publications and is a faculty affiliate at CARE-AI. He is also a member of T-CAIREM and the International Immuno-Oncology Biomarker Working Group. He has served on the Morris Animal Foundation Osteosarcoma Scientific Advisory Board and ACVIM’s AI Task Force. He is currently the guest editor of BMC Veterinary Oncology’s special issue on AI and Informatics. His research is actively funded for next-generation AI in medicine.
