Meet Katy Mthethwa, Founder of Thrive Together

Katy Mthethwa is on a mission to transform the way young minds see and understand the world. With a background in education and a deep passion for equity, diversity, and inclusion, she founded Thrive Together, a groundbreaking program that equips schools, teachers, and students to engage in meaningful conversations about identity, privilege, and belonging.

From working with street children in Mozambique to leading Thinking Skills at St. Peter’s School in Johannesburg, Katy has seen firsthand how perspectives shape our understanding of others. Thrive Together was born from this experience, offering engaging workshops, a powerful curriculum, and teacher training that fosters real change in schools. By using innovative methods—like her well-known perspective-shifting glasses activity—she helps students and educators grasp the reality of diverse experiences and build bridges of understanding.

Katy believes that when we create safe spaces for open conversations, we don’t just teach about diversity—we transform mindsets. Her work empowers students to challenge stereotypes, embrace differences, and truly thrive together.
