These fifteen Songs of Degrees are songs of ascents. They immortalize the spiritual experiences of ascents of the soul. In our seeking for union with God in life, we pass through different stages of growth such as purification, enlightenment and union. In each step, there are lessons to learn. Stephen Kaung goes through seven visions of Christ that are revealed in the book of Revelation. All of the prophecies given are meant to bring us to the testimony of Jesus (Revelation 19:10). The many and varied details are simply part of the background to the sight of Christ. God also wants us to not only see Christ but to see Him in light of our current time, the end of days. With vision, we will no longer "cast off restraint" (Proverbs 29:18) but will instead be transformed and enabled to help bring in His kingdom.

Covenant or contract is an important theme in the Bible. God made covenants with His people. He deals with them according to the covenants He made with them. Today we are under God’s New Covenant. For all God’s dealings with us in addition to our dealings with God will be governed by this New Covenant. We are therefore called to have New Covenant Living as well as New Covenant Ministry. It is hence extremely essential for us to be sure that our living and ministry are of the New Covenant way.
