Le mythe de "Faust" raconte l'histoire d'un homme très cultivé qui cherche à comprendre les mystères du monde qui l'entoure. Un jour, il passe un pacte avec le Diable qui lui promet de lui faire connaître tous ces mystères en échange de son âme. Les deux personnages commencent alors à errer dans le Royaume des Ténèbres, jusqu'à la rencontre de Faust avec Marguerite dont il tombe amoureux et dont il va causer la perte.

Eduard und Charlotte leben einträchtig und zurückgezogen auf ihrem Landgut und genießen ihr spätes Glück in zweiter Ehe. Doch als sie Eduards Freund, den in Not geratenen Hauptmann Otto, und Charlottes verwaiste Nichte Ottilie bei sich aufnehmen, wird ihre Beziehung auf die Probe gestellt. Die rational veranlagte Charlotte fühlt sich bald zum pragmatischen Hauptmann hingezogen, während der gefühlvolle Eduard dem Charme Ottilies erliegt.

Aus dem Harenberg Literaturlexikon (2003) zu diesem Text: "Die Differenz zwischen Wilhelm Meisters Lehrjahre und den Wanderjahren markiert den Übergang vom herausgehobenen Individuum ins Zeitalter der Masse und der Maschine. Goethe vermochte hier die Diagnose der Zeit zu stellen und Therapeutica für die Zukunft zu nennen. Die Wanderjahre nehmen das Ideal der autonomen Persönlichkeit zurück und geben Anweisungen zum tätigen Dasein in der republikanischen Gemeinschaft. Die Ausbildung des Menschen zum sozialen Wesen ist Thema des komplizierten Romans". (S. 1085)

Kompliziert ist der Roman fürwahr; nichts zum Hören "nebenbei". Aber einer der wichtigsten Texte der Weltliteratur.

Buch 1: Wilhelm Meisters Lehrjahre ist ein klassischer Bildungsroman von Johann Wolfgang von Goethe. Der wegweisende Entwicklungsroman erschien 1795/96. In seiner "Italienischen Reise" führt Johann Wolfgang von Goethe Tagebuch über seine Reise von Karlsbad über den Brenner, Gardasee, Verona und Venedig bis nach Rom und Sizilien, die er von 1786 bis 1788 unternommen hat. Hier entstehen mehr als 150 Zeichnungen. Bei dieser Reise wird ihm klar, dass ihm die Dichtkunst mehr liegt als die Malerei. Die "Weimarer Klassik" wird geboren!
