Werther, a sensitive young artist, finds himself in Wahlheim, a quiet, attractive village in Germany where he seeks solace from the turmoils of love. Der 1774 erschienene Briefroman "Die Leiden des jungen Werther" von Johann Wolfgang von Goethe spielt in der Zeit um 1771 in der deutschen Kleinstadt Wahlheim und handelt von dem jungen Rechtspraktikanten Werther, der sich unglücklich in die bereits verlobte Lotte verliebt und am Ende Selbstmord begeht. Seine Gedanken und Handlungen hält er in den Briefen an seinen Freund Wilhelm fest.

Mit dieser Aufnahme wird zum ersten Mal in Deutschland der Versuch gemacht, ein großes dramatisches Gedicht der Weltliteratur als Ganzes auf der Schallplatte wiederzugeben: Goethes "Faust" in der dramaturgischen Einrichtung und unter der Regie von Gustaf Gründgens. Es mag daran erinnert werden, dass dies genau 125 Jahre nach der Uraufführung des ersten Teils in Braunschweig (1829) und genau 100 Jahre nach der des zweiten in Hamburg (1854) geschieht.

Faust is a tragic play in two parts by Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, usually known in English as Faust, Part One and Faust, Part Two. Although rarely staged in its entirety, it is the play with the largest audience numbers on German-language stages. Faust is considered by many to be Goethe's magnum opus and the greatest work of German literature. The earliest forms of the work, known as the Urfaust, were developed between 1772 and 1775; however, the details of that development are not entirely clear.

Goethe vermochte hier die Diagnose der Zeit zu stellen und Therapeutica für die Zukunft zu nennen. Die Wanderjahre nehmen das Ideal der autonomen Persönlichkeit zurück und geben Anweisungen zum tätigen Dasein in der republikanischen Gemeinschaft. Die Ausbildung des Menschen zum sozialen Wesen ist Thema des komplizierten Romans". (S. 1085)

Kompliziert ist der Roman fürwahr; nichts zum Hören "nebenbei". Aber einer der wichtigsten Texte der Weltliteratur.

Eduard und Charlotte leben einträchtig und zurückgezogen auf ihrem Landgut und genießen ihr spätes Glück in zweiter Ehe. Doch als sie Eduards Freund, den in Not geratenen Hauptmann Otto, und Charlottes verwaiste Nichte Ottilie bei sich aufnehmen, wird ihre Beziehung auf die Probe gestellt. Die rational veranlagte Charlotte fühlt sich bald zum pragmatischen Hauptmann hingezogen, während der gefühlvolle Eduard dem Charme Ottilies erliegt.

Buch 1: Wilhelm Meisters Lehrjahre ist ein klassischer Bildungsroman von Johann Wolfgang von Goethe. Der wegweisende Entwicklungsroman erschien 1795/96. Er besteht aus acht Büchern, von denen sich die ersten fünf inhaltlich an das zu Goethes Lebzeiten unveröffentlichte Fragment Wilhelm Meisters theatralische Sendung anlehnen.

In seiner "Italienischen Reise" führt Johann Wolfgang von Goethe Tagebuch über seine Reise von Karlsbad über den Brenner, Gardasee, Verona und Venedig bis nach Rom und Sizilien, die er von 1786 bis 1788 unternommen hat. Hier entstehen mehr als 150 Zeichnungen. Bei dieser Reise wird ihm klar, dass ihm die Dichtkunst mehr liegt als die Malerei. Die "Weimarer Klassik" wird geboren!

En effet tout le monde connaît "l'histoire" de Werther et son suicide, mais peu sont ceux qui connaissent véritablement le parcours intérieur de ce geste solitaire... Geste magnifique, mais aussi geste de désespoir social face à ses blocages intimes et aux barrières convenues par une société fière de ses convenances.
