Invece di fascinose donne in difficoltà e uomini con impermeabili e fedora, si ritrova a dover trattare con vecchiette cui è sparito il gatto o con ragazzini che scappano con l’auto del padre… Per fortuna (?) però poi è arrivata Catherine Laggat-Brown, ricca, generosa e assai preoccupata perché sua figlia ha ricevuto una serie di minacce di morte.

Nel migliore dei casi, un’indagine si chiude con l’arresto del colpevole. Nel peggiore – per Agatha Raisin – con la perdita di gran parte della propria chioma, a seguito di una crudele vendetta. L’imbarazzo è troppo e Agatha decide di allontanarsi da Carsely e fare una vacanza nel villaggio di Wyckhadden, dove peraltro abita una strega che le vende sia un tonico per far ricrescere i capelli sia un filtro d’amore, che Agatha non esita a provare su un locale ispettore di polizia.
