The fantasy worlds of Alice in Wonderland and Through the Looking-Glass come to life in these audio theatre presentations with music and sound effects.

Alice, a bored young girl sitting on the side of a riverbank, is suddenly whisked away to a world populated by fantastic characters—from a white rabbit and a Cheshire cat to a mad hatter and a queen of hearts.

Conjured up one 'golden afternoon' in 1862 to entertain Alice Liddell, the daughter of the dean of Carroll's college, the dream worlds of nonsensical Wonderland and back-to-front Looking Glass kingdom depict order turned upside down. Following the white rabbit into his warren, Alice falls into a world where croquet is played with hedgehogs and flamingos, a baby turns into a pig, time runs amok at a the Mad Hatter's tea-party, a chaotic game of chess makes Alice a Queen and the Mock Turtle and Gryphon dance the Lobster Quadrille.

Alice, now slightly older, walks through a mirror into the Looking-Glass House and immediately becomes involved in a strange game of chess. Soon, she is exploring the rest of the house, meeting a sequence of characters now familiar to most: Tweedledum and Tweedledee, the Red Queen, Humpty Dumpty, and the Walrus, to name a few. The popular and linguistically playful poem "Jabberwocky" is also featured in Through the Looking Glass.

When Alice steps through the looking-glass, she enters a very strange world of chess pieces and nursery rhyme characters such as Humpty Dumpty, Tweedledum and Tweedledee and the angry Red Queen. Nothing is what it seems and, in fact, through the looking-glass, everything is distorted.

The author of the famous Alice books also wrote many poems notably in the humorous and nonsense genres. This is the original story that would later become "Alice in Wonderland". The journey began at Folly Bridge in Oxford and ended 3 miles northwest in the village of Godstow. During the trip, Lewis Carroll told the three young daughters of his friend a story that featured a bored little girl named Alice who goes looking for an adventure. The girls loved it, and one of them, Alice Liddell, asked Dodgson to write it down for her. On 26 November 1864, he gave Alice the handwritten manuscript of "Alice's Adventures Under Ground".

Charles Lutwidge Dodson, a professor of mathematics at Magdalen (Maudlin) College, Oxford, originally wrote these charming children's stories for young Alice, the daughter of his friend, Henry George Liddell, the dean of Christ Church. After publication, these children's books rapidly became popular with adults because of the extraordinary mixture of rationalism and fantasy, irony, and absurdity viewed through the looking glass of a child's dreams.
