Pátá a závěrečná část slavné série v podání Vojty Kotka, v níž Arthur Dent hledá tiché místo v odlehlém koutě vesmíru, kde by mohl v klidu strávit zbytek života. Jeho přání se splní – dostane se na mírumilovnou planetu, na níž život plyne bez větších vzruchů a problémů. Její sympatičtí obyvatelé žijí na technické úrovni odpovídající zhruba pozemskému osmnáctému století, a tak se Arthur horlivě snaží přijít na to, které výdobytky své rodné civilizace by mohl novým spoluobčanům zprostředkovat. Odpověď je překvapivě jednoduchá.

Mesmo depois de tanto tempo, ele ainda acordava todas as manhãs com um grito de horror por estar preso àquela monótona e assustadora rotina. Talvez Arthur até preferisse continuar isolado em sua caverna escura, úmida e fedorenta a encarar a próxima aventura para a qual seria forçosamente arrastado: salvar o Universo dos temíveis robôs xenófobos do planeta Krikkit.

Arthur Dent hatte schon lange keinen so schlechten Tag mehr wie den, an dem die Erde in die Luft flog. Deprimiert und einsam, wie er ist, lässt sich Arthur schließlich auf dem kleinen Planeten Lamuella nieder, wo er sich als Sandwichmacher hervortut. Die Aussicht auf ein fortan geruhsames Leben wird allerdings zunichte gemacht, weil dort unerwartet seine Tochter auftaucht.

Arthur Dent, einziger Überlebender des gesprengten Planeten Erde, hat sich auf seiner abenteuerlichen Fahrt durch den Weltraum eine Pause verdient. Gemeinsam mit seinen Freunden Ford Prefect, Trillian, Marvin und Zaphod Beeblebrox steuert er Milliways an, das Restaurant am sprichwörtlichen Ende des Universums. Doch von Erholung keine Spur. Zum Abendessen nehmen Arthur und Co an einer Reality-Show teil, und dann treffen sie auch noch Desaster Area, die lauteste Rockband des Universums.

Die Erde ist doch nicht gesprengt worden! Arthur Dent ist nach seiner Odyssee durch den Weltraum wieder auf dem Heimatplaneten gelandet...

When a passenger check-in desk at Terminal Two, Heathrow Airport, shot up through the roof engulfed in a ball of orange flame, the usual people tried to claim responsibility. First the IRA, then the PLO and the Gas Board. Even British Nuclear Fuels rushed out a statement to the effect that the situation was completely under control, that it was a one-in-a-million chance, that there was hardly any radioactive leakage at all and that the site of the explosion would make a nice location for a day out with the kids and a picnic.

Praticamente Inofensiva é tão polêmico quanto seu criador. Muitos o consideram o último volume da série O Mochileiro das Galáxias e outros afirmam tratar-se de um título independente, que apenas utiliza os mesmos personagens. Parte dessa controvérsia se deve aos 13 anos que separam este livro da primeira aventura de Arthur Dent, já que Adams iniciou a coleção no final dos anos 1970 e somente em 1992 retomou a história.

Pauvre Arthur Dent ! Apprendre qu'on est devenu père sans avoir... enfin rien fait pour ça, voilà de quoi ébranler le flegme le plus involontaire de toute la Galaxie ! Suffisamment, en tout cas, pour aller se saouler sur une lointaine planète, dans un modeste bar tenu par une légende - toujours ! - vivante du rock'n roll... Pas de panique ! Car l'imprévisible "Guide du voyageur galactique", décidément irremplaçable, dévoilera enfin tous les mystères d'une odyssée digne des plus belles pages de Marx - Groucho Marx - ; entre autres.

Plus bas que Terre ! Ayant - plus ou moins - survécu à son édifiante promenade cosmico-temporelle, le pauvre Arthur Dent savoure l'indicible plaisir de fouler à nouveau le sol de sa planète natale. Une planète jadis détruite par les terribles Vogons, sous le prétexte fallacieux de laisser passer une autoroute intergalactique... Pas de panique ! Car l'universellement exhaustif "Guide galactique" saura sans doute répondre à cet étrange paradoxe. Et peut-être élucidera-t-il un mystère plus angoissant encore : pourquoi les dauphins ont-ils disparu.
