This is the story of the first 25 years of Mr. Churchill’s life, up to the point where his unique parliamentary career was just beginning. From childhood and his apprentice days at Harrow and Sandhurst we follow him on active service to Cuba, the North-West Frontier of India, Omdurman and the Boer War (including the historic story of his escape from captivity), while in the background are his early adventures in politics and literature.

Between 1485 and 1688, England became a Protestant country under Henry VIII. His daughter, Elizabeth I, battled for succession and supremacy at home, and the discovery of 'the round world' enabled a vast continent across the Atlantic to be explored. Churchill begins by asking what it would be like to live your life over again and ends by describing his love affair with painting. Sir Winston Leonard Spencer Churchill (1874-1965) was a British statesman, soldier and writer who served as Prime Minister of the UK from 1940 to 1945, during the Second World War, and again from 1951 to 1955. An economic liberal and imperialist, he was for most of his career a member of the Conservative Party, which he led from 1940 to 1955. He was the first person to be made an honorary citizen of the US. These recordings capture 51 of Churchill’s speeches over 1934-45.
