An author goes on a book tour for his new bestseller which, as people keep telling him, is one hell of a book. One morning, he meets The Kid: a young Black boy who looks just like the one he keeps seeing on the news. And The Kid wants him to tell his story. The Odradek is an imaginary creature that appears in the short story "The Concerns of a Family Man" by Franz Kafka . The physical description of the Odradek shows it as a flat, star-shaped spool of thread, with the addition of a few other appendages. Later in the story, Kafka gives the Odradek more human characteristics, being able to stand on two legs and speak. The narrator even gets to have a few conversations with the Odradek, during which the creature's nomadic and possibly immortal nature is emphasized.

Metamorphosis is a novella written by Franz Kafka, first published in 1915. One of Kafka's best-known works, Metamorphosis tells the story of salesman Gregor Samsa, who wakes one morning to find himself inexplicably transformed into a huge insect and subsequently struggles to adjust to this new condition. In popular culture and adaptations of the novella, the insect is commonly depicted as a cockroach.

"Sylvie e Bruno", pubblicato nel 1889, è il terzo e ultimo romanzo di Lewis Carroll, ben più famoso come autore di "Alice nel paese delle meraviglie". Il romanzo è piuttosto eterogeneo, e parti decisamente adatte ai ragazzi con semplici storie e filastrocche, si alternano con discussioni di tipo filosofico e religioso, o dialoghi che si svolgono sulla vena dell'assurdo, tipici dell'autore, per cui si situa decisamente tra romanzi per adulti (che abbiano vivo, in sé, il loro bambino interiore).
