All through the election, the world marveled that Trump could possibly be the leading republican candidate. That a socialist could challenge Hillary. They marveled that the UK was leaving the EU. What could possibly cause such dynamic shifting in the political landscapes. Here I explore my theory that it is the silencing of disent and the removal of free speach that has cause this rise of Nationalism and Populism, both at home and abroad.

Sinclair Lewis (1885-1951) was an American novelist and playwright who, in 1930, became the first American to win the Nobel Prize for literature. The Job is one of his earliest novels. Concerning the exploits of a 1920s career woman, it is one of the first novels about feminism and is considered one of the stepping stones towards Lewis' success.
