Ancient Poetry

Classical poetry is a genre of poetry. Judging from the number of words in the verse, there are so-called four-character poems, five-character poems, seven-character poems, and miscellaneous poems. This album is the first series of "Ancient Poems", which recites and interprets ancient poems.

Khwāja Shams-ud-Dīn Muḥammad Ḥāfeẓ-e Shīrāzī is commonly known to us as Hafiz, the Persian poet who was born in Shiraz, Iran, in either 1315 or 1317. The facts of much of his early life are unknown to us but it is said that, at an early age, he memorised many passages of the Quran and was therefore given the title of Hafiz, which means 'the memoriser or the safe keeper'. Hafiz mainly wrote lyric poetry or ghazals - an ideal form for expressing the ecstasy of the divine and the intoxicating mystical union with God.

The Georgics was published in 29 BCE, and is the second major work by the Latin poet Virgil. Its a fascinating insight into rural life and farming of the time.

Contrairement aux imitateurs qui ne faisaient que caricaturer grossièrement Aristide Bruant, Paulo du "lapin Agile" est entré réellement dans l'esprit des textes et a appris à les dire à la grande satisfaction du chansonnier qui l'a reconnu comme "son seul élève". Ion is a very short Platonic dialogue between Socrates and a rhapsode by the name of Ion who specializes in reciting the poetry of Homer. The dialogue explores the nature of poetic and artistic inspiration in a most playful way.

Apollinaire y rassemble des poèmes anciens, aux accents symbolistes, mystérieux et faussement archaïques, des poèmes rhénans, des poèmes du renouveau écrits entre 1907 et 1911 et publiés dans diverses revues et des poèmes plus récents, encore inédits. Agencé selon un principe thématique et poétique plutôt que chronologique, dépourvu de toute ponctuation et orné d'un frontispice de Picasso, ce recueil connaît vite le succès.
