After mankind's previous victories at Portsmouth and Kielder, things begin to look hopeful, but unknown to the last human survivors is that they are about to face their worst enemy yet. "If I Forget Thee, O Earth" is a post-apocalyptic fiction short story by English writer Arthur C. Clarke and first published in 1951 in the magazine Future SF. It was subsequently published as part of a short story collection in Expedition to Earth (1953).

Earth was attacked, and the survivors fought back. After the attack, they found themselves on the horizon of a new Epoch in human history. They became space travelers and on equal footing with alien civilizations around them.
