Blitzschnell fliegt Maja Richtung Heimat, um ihren Bienenstock vor den Hornissen zu warnen. Aber wie soll sie ihren Stock bloß wiederfinden? Als die Bienenkönigin die letzten Anweisungen gibt, ist schon das Surren der herannahenden Räuber zu hören. Angespannt erwarten die Bienen die erste Hornisse am Tor. Als der Eingang sich verdunkelt, verhalten sich die Bienen im Stock so still, dass die Hornissen glauben, der Stock schliefe.

Der Schneider Hannibal erzählt Maja, wie es dazu kam, dass er eines seiner acht Beine verloren hat. Als Maja ihm nicht glaubt, dass sich sein ausgerissenes Bein noch von selbst weiterbewegen konnte, wird Hannibal böse und droht Maja, sie zu fressen. Doch Maja weiß sich zu helfen.
