Rural living can be isolating with hours spent on the farm caring for the land, animals, the home, and everyone else first before yourself. Women especially know this struggle all too well. The devastation of the problems began when I was a child and lasted until I was in my mid-40s. I know my story sounds bleak but don’t be discouraged. Peace, laughter, joy, and happiness eventually came my way.

Stan Paregien began collecting family history and photos in about 1970. He and his wife, Peggy, became frequent visitors to county court houses, history centers, and cemeteries in Illinois, Missouri, Arkansas, Oklahoma, and Texas.
