Design History

Vogue magazine started, like so many great things do, in the spare room of someone's house. But unlike other such makeshift projects that flare up then fizzle away, Vogue burnt itself into our cultural consciousness. Today, 125 years later, Vogue spans 22 countries, has an international print readership upwards of 12 million and nets over 67 million monthly online users. Uncontested market leader for a century, it is one of the most recognisable brands in the world and a multi-million dollar money-making machine. It is not just a fashion magazine, it is the establishment.

The Book of Mormon has been a source of controversy since its publication, and the history behind its coming forth is shrouded in mystery. By researching the historical background of the time period, I have reconstructed a narrative for its coming forth to the world. It is a book with direct ties to the history of the New America and the early threat to destroy it.

Tom Karen is the Vimp, an Aircruiser and a Water Line Ship; he's a 'Big Fat Peace Bomb', a Bond Bug and the Marble Run; he's the Chopper bike and the 'man that designed the 1970s'; he's every one of his thousands of sketches contained in London's Victoria & Albert Museum - each a testament to a lifetime of artistry and creativity. He's also a living embodiment of a life immersed in inventiveness, imagination and thought.

Al di là di sedie, lampade o automobili, che hanno a lungo identificato il loro campo di intervento, oggi i designer progettano anche sistemi e servizi, dall'interfaccia del bancomat al car o bike sharing. Nuove tecnologie, nuovi modi di produzione, come la digital fabrication, consumatori sempre più evoluti, attenti ai valori della sostenibilità e della facilità d'uso dei prodotti, obbligano il design a confrontarsi con le possibilità inedite offerte dai fenomeni culturali e socio-economici dell'età contemporanea.
