These events are my recollection of my time during a physically abusive relationship, and due to the nature of the theme, there are some graphic descriptions of what I went through. This book is for people who are currently in, or have been in, an abusive relationship. It can also be a useful tool for people who have a loved one who are in an abusive relationship, as I feel it can help them understand the situation more and therefore be a better source of support.

I've been through the trenches of narcissistic abuse. I've endured the hurt, heartache, and humiliation at the hands of the one person who ought to care for me: my partner. He would belittle me, berate me, and make me feel full of self-doubt and dread. Being told I was worthless, useless, and that I was lucky to have him eventually took its toll, and I ended up broken and shattered.

In relationships, the presence of healthy boundaries keeps relationships healthy and functional. The rights and responsibilities remain justified, and encroachment of personal space doesn't take place. Boundaries can help in preventing relationships from becoming toxic. You'll feel less stressed and compromised if you have set healthy boundaries. Setting healthy boundaries will make you feel liberated. You will have your personal space and won't feel suffocated. Not having healthy boundaries will have consequences.

Narcissistic personality disorder is a mental condition in which those affected have a deep need for excessive admiration and attention, a lack of empathy for others, an inflated sense of their own importance, and troubled relationships. A narcissistic parent will try to prioritize their needs over everyone else’s. It is difficult to deal with a narcissist because not only do they have a lack of empathy, but they also have a deep tendency to push back with defensiveness, anger, and criticism. When you merge them together, it becomes a force to be reckoned with; a volatile tornado that can emotionally destroy anything that dares enter its path.
