The poems of Dear October chronicle the evolution of the natural world and a daughter caring for her mother during the last year of her life. Months of the final year act as the scaffolding for the collection as they reflect on the 12 moons. A letter to my child about their beauty. Reflecting their spirit, voice, laugh and more in the wonders of nature. We are nature. I think its important to notice the beauty in the sound of rain or a wild flower, while also understanding that beauty is them. I did my best in this poem to express how much they mean to me and how much they are loved and admired.

Like countless other writers - particularly women - with profiles on the internet, as Kate's online presence grew, so did the darker messages crowding her inbox. These missives from strangers have ranged from 'advice' and opinions to outright harassment.

Meditating on the cognitive and emotional dissonances between the ‘hypothetical’ and the ‘real’ of becoming a father, this irreversible transition causes the poet’s ‘lines [to] lead towards my father (again!)’.

This book is a collaboration of poetry and thoughts composed by both authors. That which is within deals with the many aspects of everyday life such as family and friends, the battles we face daily, and the fondness we hold for those we love and cherish. It will also give a new perspective on life and a hope that even when things are so tough that we think we cannot stand the pressure of time, there is a greater force (whatever it may be) at work in your corner.

But Family Poems is so extensive, with over one hundred original poems, in the variations for such relatively few categories, I felt the ability for the listener to "see" the full inside index of included titles, was essential. Within the categories of mom and dad, children and grandchildren, brothers and sisters, and extended family, my wife Sheila and I present the past and present body of poetry that began our wanting to create this many poems.
