La donna di picche, novella pubblicata nel 1834, è considerato l'opera narrativa più riuscita di Puskin, la cui prosa è caratterizzata da uno stile limpido ed essenziale. L'opera narra la vicenda del protagonista, che si rifugia in un castello abbandonato e scopre in una stanza una serie di quadri e un esiguo libro che li descrive.
