What does it mean to be Aboriginal? Why is Australia so obsessed with notions of identity? Anita Heiss, successful author and passionate campaigner for Aboriginal literacy, was born a member of the Wiradjuri nation of Central New South Wales, but was raised in the suburbs of Sydney and educated at the local Catholic school. Anita, amongst other proud Aboriginal Australians, was publicly called out as too 'fair-skinned' to be an Australian Aboriginal.

I made this book from the data I collected. All around me when I was young healthy-looking people older than me with native American characteristics were losing limbs because of the "Sugar disease". I mentally noted it but only paid it attention one night after work I ate a lot of fruit... I mean a lot. That night I ran to the bathroom multiple times and experienced extreme thirst. So I drank everything in the fridge that morning before work (Orange Juice, Milk, etc).

My grandmother was the greatest storyteller I have known. In her soft voice, she spoke of heroes and giants, of evil deeds and of mysterious spirits. Sometimes her stories were short, others epic, but she always managed to hold my brother and me completely under her spell. How the West Was Drawn explores the geographic and historical experiences of the Pawnees, the Iowas, and the Lakotas during the European and American contest for imperial control of the Great Plains during the 18th and 19th centuries. David Bernstein argues that the American West was a collaborative construction between Native peoples and Euro-American empires that developed cartographic processes and culturally specific maps, which in turn reflected encounter and conflict between settler states and indigenous peoples.

The Cherokee are among the native tribes of the United States' Southeastern Woodlands. They resided in communities along river valleys in what's now southwestern North Carolina, southeastern Tennessee, the limits of western South Carolina, northern Georgia, and northeastern Alabama just before the 18th century. Cherokee belongs to the Iroquoian language family. One oral legend tells of the people moving south in age-old times from the Great Lakes area, where other Iroquoian-speaking tribes were based, according to James Mooney, an early American ethnographer.
