In the baseball draft of 1971, Ron Williamson was the first player chosen from Oklahoma. Signing with Oakland, he said goodbye to his small home town and left for California to pursue his dreams of glory. Six years later he was back, his dreams broken by a bad arm and bad habits - drinking, drugs and women. He began to show signs of mental illness. Unable to keep a job, he moved in with his mother and slept 20 hours a day on her sofa.

I know what a true travesty of justice is - from personal experience. In March of 2003, while still struggling with an alcohol addiction, I was arrested for a DUI - and my life was turned completely upside down for the next two and half years. You'd have thought I'd committed murder. Before I continue, please allow me to let the listener of this story know that yes, I fully understand the possible consequences of operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated. But in my case, nobody was hurt. Except me, that is.
