نور عبدالمجيد ليست مجرد كاتبة تروى لنا قصصا لشخصوص لا نعرفها وتثير فضولنا فى مراقبة هؤلاء الشخوص والتلصص على أسرارهم وفقط بل هى كاتبة ترسم أرواحا وتجعلنا نطلق العنان لأروراحنا لتهرب من أجسادنا وتتلاقى فى نقطة ما مع تلك الأرواح التى رسمتها بين سطور رواياتها فنرحل معهم ونحل مكان ما حلوا ونتألم بألمهم وننتصر لهم ونخشى قرب الصفحات الأخيرة ففى النهاية حتما سنفارقهم. تبدأ الرواية بإهداء: "إلى الألم الذي أدبني وأظنه أحسن تأديبي" لتنقل لنا قصّة حياة بطلتها "يُسر الغندور" والتي قست عليها الحياة منذ طفولتها وسلبت منها أمها ثمَّ صفعتها وهي في ريعان شبابها بموت والدها لتتوالى الآلام ورحلات الفقد والخذلان.

"وغرقت في الذكرى، تركت الوطن وتغربت واستجبت ثانيةً لها، تذكرت المرأة التي جلست معي في مقهى أو مطعم أو في منتزه..كانت وفية في مواعيدها وإن كانت تتأخر دلالاًا ولكنني كنت واثقًا من أنّها ستأتي أكثر من وثوق الزوج بعودة زوجته...نادرًا ما أخلفت فتاتي موعدًأ. تذكرت كيف جازفتت للقائها مرة..عدت إلى العاصمة من رحلة الجنوب وحيدًا وكان الطريق مملًا كما قالت، والعربة الفاخرة كئيبة وكأنّها حجرةٌ هربت منها العروسة، وبدت المدن الغريبة معادية واستطال الزمن والتف حول روحي كالأفعوان...ولكني عدت وحيدًا لا لم أكن وحيدًأ...

Háfiz (1315-1390) was a lyric poet, a major figure in classical Persian literature. The compendious anthology of his poetry simply titled the Divan contains several hundred odes, from which this small selection was made by the translator. In the introduction Bicknell writes: ...we must look upon Háfiz as one of the few poets in the world who utters an unbroken strain of joy and contentment. His poverty was to him a constant fountain of satisfaction, and he frankly took the natural joys of life as they came....

عندما تسمع بكلمة (البطريركية) فما الذي يخطر ببالك؟ قسٌّ أو راهب؟ مبنى عملاق بنقوش ذهبية؟ جميعنا كذلك فهذه الكلمة بالأصل لو انتقلنا إلى ترجمتها الحرفية سنجدها تعني الأب الرئيس أمّا من حيث المعنى فهي تُشير إلى ذلك النظام المعتمد على سلطة الأب وفي المسيحية فهي تمثل مكان اقامة ومكتب رئيس الأساقفة لذا لا تُذهل عندما تخبرك هذه الرواية ب: " أمّا البطريركية نفسها فكانت عبارة عن هنجر حديدي عملاق، تحيط به حظائر مسورة بشباك معدنية، تقبع داخلها مانيكانات نسائية من خشب...!! سنتدرب أمام تلك المانيكانات المستسلمة حينما تبدأ فترة تمريننا !!
