Herr Heiland sieht Gespenster: Sonntals Bürgermeister Mindenfeld plant eine große Halloween-Party - doch dem Wirt des Gasthauses "Zur stolzen Kaiserkrone" ist das Gruselfest ein Dorn im Auge. Den Tatort fanden Holmes und Watson identisch wie tags zuvor bei Mrs. Hughes auf, mit der Ausnahme, das anstelle von fünf Kürbissen nur mehr vier um die Leiche drapiert wurden. Holmes befürchtete daraufhin, würde man dem Muster folgen, dass man in den nächsten Tagen noch mindestens mit drei weiteren Leichen rechnen musste. Es galt den Täter so schnell wie möglich zu finden. Doch ein Traum von Dr. Watson ließ alles in einem neuem Licht erscheinen.
