Napoleon History

The Napoleonic Wars brought Wellesley and Napoleon into conflict with each other, and eventually, they collided during the Waterloo Campaign. This campaign culminated in the Battle of Waterloo, which would come to be regarded as one of the bloodiest - but also one of the most important - battles in history.

This book looks over the greatest battle of human history, the fight between rationalism and the oppressive regimes society constantly imposes on free thinkers. From ancient Greece through to the early 1900s. The author thought that rationalism had won a victory, but the modern listener will feel a creeping dread as parallels with movements in today's society are revealed.

On the 18th June, 1815, the armies of France, Britain, and Prussia descended upon a quiet valley south of Brussels. In the previous three days the French army had beaten the British at Quatre Bras and the Prussians at Ligny. The Allies were in retreat. The blood-soaked battle of Waterloo would become a landmark in European history, to be examined over and again, not least because until the evening of the 18th, the French army was close to prevailing on the battlefield.
