Look at My Happy Rainbow is my account of the first few years working in a kindergarten classroom, experiencing the day to day trials and tribulations of trying to see the world a little more through the eyes of a five-year-old.

A 14-year-old boy struggles with family relationships and accepting the beliefs he was taught as a child. While on the vacation of a lifetime, driving from the United States through México, Central and South America, he visits ruins and reads scripture. As his feelings and opinions begin to clarify, he decides to express his feelings through mazes of scenes representing his religious interpretations, with short write-ups intended to help other young people discover what took him so long to understand.

"Get the doctor," said Dad. "The poor thing is green." "Give it to me," said Mum and took the baby away from Chris. At once it screwed up its nose, closed its eyes and stopped breathing. It started turning purple again. A father at eight years old? It could only be a Paul Jennings story. And it is.

My poems have simply kept coming over the years, often inspired by an impactful observation, conversation, or element of music, or as an emotional urge that simply spouts out in written words to present itself. Primary Colors is meant to speak to the colors we may ascribe to our most visceral and immediate moments of flushed emotion, e.g. infatuation, grief, and joy. Some of the poems here may speak to specific colors, but are not meant to be definitive.
