Saint Therese of Lisieux (1873-1897) - also known as Therese of the Child Jesus and the Holy Face - lived a short life. She died at the age of 24 from consumption - what we now call tuberculosis. Saint Dominic Savio was born of very poor but holy peasant stock, one of ten children. His parents were from Castelnuovo D’Asti, ten miles outside Turin. When things got desperate they were forced to leave, to find work in a small village outside of Chieri called Riva. There on April 2, 1842, a boy child was born to Charles and Brigid Savio, whom they baptized Dominic. When Dominic was two years old, the family moved once again, to a village near their home town of Castelnuovo d’Asti, Murialdo.

Francis of Assisi has inspired the church for centuries. Francis took the gospel literally, following all that Jesus said and did without limit, and his devotion led to a life filled with miracles and wonders. Jacques Cartier prépare minutieusement son premier voyage. Comme il est soutenu par le roi de France, il parvient à lever son équipage. De toutes ses œuvres, "La Vida" est la plus longue et Sainte Thérèse se présente à nous comme écrivain. Il s'agit d'un écrit profond, saisissant, d'une révélation authentique de son âme, au point qu'elle-même l'appelle ainsi : mon âme ("Lettre à Luisa de la Cerda", 23 juin 1568, 3 ; V 16, 6 ; V épilogue, 4). Sainte Thérèse a fait dans ce livre un effort systématique - le premier dans l'histoire de la pensée et de la littérature - pour déverser en ces pages la totalité de sa personne, en sorte que les critiques littéraires le considèrent comme le livre le plus personnel de toute la littérature espagnole.
