To See and Be Seen considers some of the ideological, aesthetic, pragmatic, institutional, cultural, commercial, environmental, and psychological forces that consciously or otherwise shape the production of news images and subsequently influence their reception. T. J. Thomson examines the expectations, experiences, and reactions of those depicted by visual journalists and considers other relevant factors: How do everyday people perceive cameras and those who operate them?

Perhaps the biggest secret - the open secret - is that men and women are very different, especially when it comes to what they find "hot" or a "turn on"...both in and out of the bedroom. When men think about doing something "hot" for a woman, it usually involves some form of maneuver to be executed between her legs. But, that's not where she wants you to be.

Transitioning is an alignment of the invisible and the physical. It is truth rising to the surface. These are the words of Terry Eagleton, the working-class Irish Marxist critic of English literature who believes that all literary theory is political. This creates cultural and political tribes, makes people nervous about engaging at all, or leads to the issues to be trivialised or attributed to the excessive sensitivity of 'snowflakes' to 'identity politics'.
