Disappearing tourists spell big trouble for Shadow Crossing, especially since the town already has the reputation of being one of the most haunted places on Earth. With the Moon Festival just around the corner, the town merchants are up in arms over tourists going missing. No one will want to visit the spookiest town in the country if people are actually disappearing. The situation takes a turn for the worse when the body of one of those tourists turns up in the county prosecutor's car and Aunt Selena spots a reaper roaming around the cemetery in the dead of the night.

Sadie has accidentally turned her ex into a zombie, and now she has to keep him hidden in her closet until she can reverse the spell. That's just the start of her problems. Life is about to get a whole lot more complicated. As part of her starting-over plan, Sadie opens the Shadow Crossing Detective Agency, Spooks Included. Almost as soon as she opens doors for business, Sadie gets an anonymous client who's convinced someone is out to kill the heads of the five witch families known as the CO5. This is bad news, considering her aunt Selena is the head of one of those families.

Lisa Kyle runs the general store in Coldwood. She's stayed in town to take care of her mother; the only man she ever loved left years ago. But now he's back - and mixed up with a notorious criminal organization, the Serpent motorcycle club. Her shock doesn't change the electric heat between them. The boy she loved is now a dark-haired tower of a man, and his intense blue eyes are irresistible. Lisa knows she should stay away, but she can't.
