But Sadler's clean-cut, all-American image hid a darker side, a Hunter Thompson-esque life of booze, girls, and guns. Unable to score another hit song, he settled in Central America, ran guns, and allegedly trained guerrillas.

True story of the firsthand account of my tour of duty. From March 7, 1970, to January 30, 1971, with the First Cavalry, a rifleman with Charlie Company, First Battalion, Fifth Cavalry. In January 1968, the 26th Marine Regiment was ordered to a place in the far northwest corner of South Vietnam called Khe Sanh. John Corbett, an untested replacement in a clean, green uniform, and his fellow leathernecks were responsible for building and defending the combat base, and holding positions on the strategic hills overlooking the Ho Chi Minh Trail as it crossed into Laos and South Vietnam from nearby North Vietnam. This project has taken me a lot longer than anticipated. I would guess that I’ve been at it for more than 20 years. It started as a result of wanting to let the mother of a fallen soldier know what happened to her son, as well as where his death took place. I watched two point men take 50-caliber machine gun bullets to the head and watched the third being grabbed and taken behind enemy lines. It tells my experiences of the paths I took as a United States Marine in Vietnam. The mouths of many soldiers will say the same - the same soldiers who had shared my paths with the experiences of my many paths in life.
