About this listen

The incredible story of Tom Brady and the Patriots' tumultuous 2016 season: from national disgrace to the greatest Super Bowl comeback of all time.

In January 2015, rumors circulated that the New England Patriots - a team long suspected of abiding by the "if you ain't cheating you ain't trying" philosophy - had used under-inflated footballs in their playoff victory against the Indianapolis Colts. As evidence began to build, however, a full on NFL investigation was launched, exploding an unsubstantiated rumor into an intense scandal that would lead news coverage for weeks. As shockwaves rippled throughout the NFL system, the very legitimacy of one of the league's most popular teams and their star quarterback began to erode, even as the Patriots and Brady went on to win that year's Super Bowl.

But as the celebrations gave way to the offseason, the investigation only intensified, reopening old wounds between the Patriots' powerful owner, Robert Kraft, and the NFL commissioner, Roger Goodell. Brady was devastated and seemingly more nervous in front of a judge than on a game-winning drive.

When the dust settled, Brady would be able to play again - but only after watching the first four games of the 2016 season from his couch. The pressure couldn't have been more intense: Brady's legacy was at stake. If he failed to return to his usual self, all the critics and even the history books would have to put a giant asterisk next to his name, signifying one thing: he was a cheater.

12 is the propulsive story of this gritty comeback. It's a drama that unfolds in the locker room, the court room, and under the brightest lights in all of sports - the Super Bowl. Now for the first time, listeners will have an exclusive look into Tom Brady's experience and the NFL's shocking strangle-hold on their players. With unprecedented access to Brady himself, his teammates, and his lawyers, we will see just how a football legend went up against one of the largest corporations in the world to stage the greatest comeback in NFL history and emerge a god of the gridiron.

More context for Brady’s greatness

It’s important to note that Brady had ups and downs just like other mere mortals. But this book underlines that when everything is on the line, there are few others you want on your side other than 12.

Good book but not exactly breaking news.

I expected to learn a lot more about the “inside story” about the ridiculous scandal but this is just a glorified version of what’s already been circulated through the media. A lot of time spent going over play by plays in games than the “inside story.” It’s a good book, but not exactly breaking news.

A Brady Must Read

This is a great book that discusses Deflategate and gives the entire background to it and the way the NFL mishandled every step of the process. It gives you the story of how they attempted to take down a powerful dynasty only to lead to them winning multiple Super Bowls anyway.

He didn't do it

Tom Brady deserves to be celebrated not condemned. The man is an American hero. #goat

Error

Book was ok. There were a few errors. One saying that the pats played in SD in 2001, but the game was in NE.

Pronounces Amendola incorrect 132 times.

Narration was 7* on a scale of 1 to 5, except for mispronouncing Amendola.
Some gems in this book but it has several fatal flaws. It describes hundreds of routine plays in excruciating detail. TV has 1,000 viewers for every radio listener because ppl want to see the play, not have it described. It's mind boggling that the narriator, the producer, the recording tech, the janitor, and the reset of the crew don't know how to pronounce Amendola. It's especially mind blowing they pronounce his nick name Dola correctly.
