About this listen

Cantankerous and vinegar-tongued Grandmama, from Anne Perry's Charlotte and Thomas Pitt series, is the leading character in this Christmas novel, which unfolds in the chilly, windswept Romney Marshes off the English Channel.

Grandmama arrives on a holiday visit to the home of Charlotte's parents, where a fellow guest--an outcast from her own family--is subsequently murdered. Like the heroes before her in Anne Perry's Christmas novels, Grandmama is called upon to play the role of amateur detective.

A delightful listen

Both the story, the character development and the narration are superb. Looking forward to reading others in Ann Perry’s Christmas series.

Such a pleasant Christmas Story Surprise

I've been struggling with trying to be in a Chrismas mood this year (who hasn't at the end of 2020). This was an excellent story. I also listened to my favorite Tim Curry reading A Chistmas Carrol. Different stories to be sure, but both Victorian Ghostly Tales to be sure. Help your mood along the way, redemption is always a nice cup of cheer.

Charming Christmas Story

That’s if you like a murder puzzle to occupy you mind while you hang decorations.

She UNDERSTANDS!!!

Anne Perry draws her characters with so much beauty for the inner self and how we need to understand ourselves!

Wow! Engaging, heartfelt, bittersweet, mysterious.

What a surprise! Oddly this little "who dunnit" packed in so much originality and emotion ot embodied the spirit of the Christmas season. I find it will become one of my all time favorites.

Good for Grandmama!

It was nice to get to know more about Charlotte's grandmother's character.
Sad for Maude though. Her sister deserved more punishment.

Fun read

I’ve read a number of the Charlotte Pitt mysteries and enjoyed them. It’s fun to hear more about Grandmama and her back story. It’s hard to swallow that she changed so much but since it was written by Anne Perry I guess it’s now part of the “cannon”.

A wholesome mystery

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

It is a great breakout story from the usual inspector Pitt series. The despicable grandmother has a chance to become known to the reader. She has a chance to show her metal as an investigator and maybe Charlotte isn't the only one in the family with a brain. It is a great listen especially if you know Pitt but stands quite on its own, too.

What did you like best about this story?

I liked it because it gave me a chance to know another member of the "Pitt" family.

Have you listened to any of Terrence Hardiman’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Yes, I liked it a lot

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes

Any additional comments?

Could be an introduction to the series.
