Publisher's summary

When widow Millie Sanger finds injured enemy pilot Lukas Schiller on her farm, the distant war is suddenly at her doorstep. Compassionate Millie knows he’ll be killed if discovered and makes the dangerous decision to offer him shelter from the storm. On opposite sides of the inescapable conflict, the two strangers forge an unexpected and passionate bond.

But as the snow thaws, the relentless fury of World War Two forces them apart, leaving only the haunting memories of what they shared and an understanding that their secret must never see light. As Millie’s dangerous act of kindness sets them on paths they never could have expected, those closest to them become their greatest threats, and the consequences of compassion prove deadly....

A beautiful, harrowing love story, perfect for fans of Rachel Hore and Santa Montefiore.

Such a wonderful book. Sad in some ways but happy in others. I really enjoyed reading it.

On of my best liked

It’s hard for me to find a novel that I really like. Once in awhile I find one. This is one of them. I read/digital and listened/audible at the same time. It kept me guessing to the very end. The best 👍

Hard to write a review here without it spoiling rest of story. Never had a book from this point of view

The British countrysides were in danger also and they worked very hard to provide food for an island as big as the UK. I would so love to say more

so many lives, so many sorrows

A great book. it demonstrated the way our lives are joined together and how one decision can change our lives. Also, how the secrets of our lives can come back as goodness or further struggles. it is a story about war, but also a story about human caring and love.

This was such a good story I missed a lot sleep to get to the end

The ending was disappointing. Such a good story well written and the ending was a let down. He had come so far after so such time and ugh really
