Publisher's summary

Telegraph operator Lucy Drake is a master of Morse code, but the presence of Sir Colin Beckwith at a rival news agency puts her livelihood at risk. Despite their rivalry, Lucy realises Colin's connections could be just what her family needs to turn the tide of their long legal battle over their stolen fortune.

When she negotiates an unlikely alliance with him, neither of them realises how far the web of treachery they're wading into will take them.

I loved it!

The beginning of another great historical series by Elizabeth Camden. Check out her other books. I’ve never been disappointed

Predictable but charming

This was a great romantic adventure. Characters who were admirable from the beginning but still were able to learn and grow thru their adventure. Fantastically written and read.

Wonderful

I enjoy this book immensely. The Telegraph was an amazing invention. New York's plumbing a new topic for me.

Spellbound!

I was looking for a book that would keep my attention, but not be too heavy during this pandemic. This book was a perfect mix for me. I’ll be going for another book from this author next.

Enjoy this story over and over

I read the story of Lucy, Nick and Colin and then listened to it. I enjoyed their journey of letting go. In the audio version I think Nick and Lucy should have had N.Y. accents to balance Colin's British. I could have used a few more descriptors of attire since fashion was shifting in that time period. Lucy's skirt was tight for one scene but in the tunnels it seemed she had lots of fabric. I wish I had put together it was a continuation of the Biblical story of Jacob and Esau from the beginning. I enjoyed learning words like sandhog and seeing texting from the 1900s in Morse code. The Early 1900s were changing times in NYC and it was fun to walk through them with these characters.

Wonderful, suspenseful story!

I have so enjoyed learning new snippets of history through Camden’s work. No canned romance here. Great writer.

Surprises make this story even better

i truly enjoyed this story and its characters. The plot has plenty of twists and unexpected turns, with characters making thoughtful decisions that bring courage and respect to mind more than once. The direction of the story was never stagnant...it kept me guessing, sometimes irritated because i thought the character made the wrong choice, but always intrigued. A great read, and i will definitely look for more books by Elizabeth Camden!
