Fast paced witchiness

This is my first book by this author and I quite enjoyed it. A lot of stuff going on with loads of humor. I love when the inanimate objects have personality, when there are twist you don’t see coming and just the fun of the whole book and it’s cast of characters. It does end with unanswered questions and maybe not so much happily ever after but I enjoyed it all! I can’t wait to see what this calamity Jane of witchy world gets into next! I enjoyed the narration and am excited for the next one.

I did really like the secrets around the small area town.

Narrator does a good job.
I’ll be looking forward to book 2 as this one ends in a bit of a cliffhanger, heaps of info we need to know.

Story was Drawn out at the Start & Rush at End

You Start out with the MC (Riley) who runs a Coffee Shop called Witch's Brew. She is a Orphan who during the entire 18 yrs was in Foster Care. She finally tracked down her birth Father in a town called Wildwood. When her father died he left everything (his home and a good size bank account) to Riley. She then bought the storefront and opened a Coffee Shop. As the story continues we meet various other people in this town. Then a fire at the local Bakery and later a Robbery at Witch's Brew. Finally a Murder. Narrator does a good job with the characters voices and the entire storyline.

A Deadly Affair by R.M. Connor

Narrated by Michelle Shure on Audible
3 stars

Riley Jones is back in Wildewood after being put in foster care for 18 years and now owns a quirky little bakery called The Witches Brew. As she struggles with the daily life of owning a business with an employee who is uncooperative, a cute dimpled man who has her losing focus, she also has to hide that she’s a witch, using her powers only in private. When strange things start to happen around Wildewood, all pointing toward the aspect of wanting to stop the wedding of the Mayor’s daughter, Riley tries to figure out who is behind all the strange things happening before it’s too late.

I listened to this book on Audible and thought it was a cute story that centers around a small town where nothing bad happens, until it does and you’re left wondering who could possibly want to cause chaos in such a small town. It has a cute black cat that happens to be Riley’s familiar and a hat that likes to be loud at bad times.

The narration for this audiobook was done well. Michelle Shure has a clear voice and I understood every word well. I rated this book 3 stars because I felt there were a few things I found could have been done better. There was a lot of repetition in this book that I found we only needed to be told once. It drew me out of the story and was left saying “you told us that already” more than once. I also felt the romance could have been shaped a little better instead of the cliche knock into you at the grocery store sort of start to the relationship. I’m not a big reader in romance but I want to read a romance where it’s unique and hasn’t been done before.

I did enjoy this book, it was cozy and perfect for the autumn season. It did stop on a cliffhanger and I can't decide if or when I’ll continue with Christmas right around the corner. However, I’m a curious person, so I’ll probably pick up the second one when I’m in the mood for it.

If you enjoy books with:
Paranormal instances
Witchcraft
A talking hat and a Black cat familiar
Romance
You’ll enjoy this cozy read!
