Blue Echohawk doesn't know who she is. She doesn't know her real name or when she was born. Abandoned at two and raised by a drifter, she didn't attend school until she was ten years old. At nineteen, when most kids her age are attending college or moving on with life, she is just a senior in high school. With no mother, no father, no faith, and no future, Blue Echohawk is a difficult student, to say the least.

Tough, hard, and overtly sexy, she is the complete opposite of the young British teacher who decides he is up for the challenge, and takes the troublemaker under his wing.

This is the story of a nobody who becomes somebody. It is the story of an unlikely friendship, where hope fosters healing and redemption becomes love. But falling in love can be hard when you don't know who you are. Falling in love with someone who knows exactly who they are and exactly why they can't love you back might be impossible.

Would you listen to A Different Blue again? Why?

Yes, many times! It is a wonderful love story with honest, believable characters and no rushing to jump in bed, which seems to be all too common and popular with today's NA genre.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Both Blue and Wilson -- they were funny, serious, quirky, genuine.... just loved the story.

Which scene was your favorite?

When Wilson was explaining the differences between American English and British English to his class.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Yes. Just before Blue gave birth, she was briefly considering keeping her daughter, though knew that wasn't the best option for both the baby and herself.

Any additional comments?

Amy Harmon is an excellent author, or at least did an excellent job with this book. I am turning to Making Faces next and cannot wait for another great story.

This book is a a triumph! This book is rich, delicious. The characters come to life in all the ways, their lives reach out and touch your soul. The narration it brilliant and I never say that. Amy Harmon I have listened to many of your books in the past week and I am now a huge fan!

I liked the realness of this story. It had romance, mystery, a bad girl, a too-good-to-be-true boy. It was a well-told young adult, coming-of-age story, but more than anything it was a story of redemption.

I thought the narration was superb.

Loved every moment of the story! couldn't stop listening. characters were so in depth and i could really relate to Blue. one of my favorite so far but I really love this authors books.

Tavia Gilbert is no doubt in the top 3 of my list of favorite narrators. She can do it all -- (most) accents, appropriate phrasing and feeling, and differentiated female and (oh, yes!) male voices. In my opinion, she can do no wrong. Who knows -- perhaps she could even take a frog story and turn it into a prince. 'Nuff said!

As for the writing, this is the first time I've "read" a book by Amy Harmon. And what a book! The main character is resilient and resourceful in the face of challenges. The story was well-written and original, and contained a number of surprises. I liked that it showed a slice of life off the beaten track and included references to Native American (Pawnee, if I remember correctly) culture. I wouldn't have minded a bit more of that, actually.

Amy Harmon is one of my favorite writers. Her stories have complex relationships that seem completely reality based. Knowledge of the main characters slowly unfold with the story as the characters and their encounters interweave and grow. Blue Echohawk's resilience and talent would not be denied no matter the challenges life presented. Darcy Wilson diligently refused to interfere with her choices allowing their relationship to move naturally through experiences. And in the nearly eleven hours of listening to this book I was enthralled -- with the use of words by Ms. Harmon and with the narration by Tavia Gilbert.

I don't want to give anything away, but this is a beautiful story about a girl trying find her identity and the consequences of choices. I highly recommend it!

Absolutely loved this book- the story was beautifully written. Love, loss, and self discovery mixed with stories from classic literature, woven together perfectly.
