When Nicole Rayburn adds a historic bookshop to her list of promotional venues, she meets the owner, Deborah Dolan, who’s desperate to discover what happened to her Victorian ancestor. A well-respected playwright, Edgar Hilliard seemingly had it all: professional success, a thriving business, and a loving family, but according to family lore, Edgar walked out one night, never to return, an unfinished manuscript his only legacy to future generations.
Deborah’s obsession with Edgar borders on the unhealthy, but despite her better judgment, Nicole can’t seem to walk away from this new challenge and enlists the help of her friend, Dr. Quinn Allenby to solve the mystery. Nicole and Quinn are determined to discover what happened to Edgar, but their search for answers is hindered by unexpected personal obstacles that threaten to alter the course of their lives forever.

Plot. Nicole Rayburn is a successful author in the United Kingdom and the author of each book in the series. Each story Nicole tells is a historical mystery, typically about women navigating and often suffering from the prejudices they faced in the 1800s. When she is not creating these mysteries, we learn about her trials as a writer and wife—most stories stem from events in her life, such as finding an old sepia photo or receiving a research request from a friend. Subplots emanate from her life today, such as COVID seclusion and blackmail.
Narration by Jess Nahikian and production are good, no issues.
Entertaining.
Nicole Rayburn Historical Mysteries

This series is so well written. The main character thru the series is an author of historical non-fiction who decides to try fiction instead. In each book she is presented with a mystery from a different time period.
As Nicole, the main character, tries to solve the mystery, because she simply must, having been a non-fiction history writer before, she has to depend on a full cast of characters that she uses to help her run down the facts, best they can.
So we end up with layers of story. The story of Nicole trying to solve the mystery. The actual story of what really happened, and the story Nicole ends up telling, as she never fully ever finds out what happened so long ago. But it all works so very well
The entire series is a great listen
