About this listen
It takes a village to fall in love. Set in Scotland, on the Isle of Skye, we meet Harry and Emilia, who have always been best friends, well, until they complicated everything by sleeping together. Drunk and alone on New Year’s Eve, Emilia phones up the TV’s psychic and spills out all of her sorrows. When her friends propose to stay in a cabin in the middle of nowhere for Christmas, Emilia jumps at the chance, but the atmosphere quickly dampens when Harry announces his girlfriend will be joining them. What will happen to Harry and Emilia’s relationship when they discover the island is full of old myths and a time loop they just can’t escape from?

"Highly recommended festive reading! I whizzed through it once I started reading and didn't want to put it down! It's made me want to visit the Isle of Skye immediately too! 5 stars from me!" Jaimie Admans

Story
Ryland Grace is the sole survivor on a desperate, last-chance mission - and if he fails, humanity and the Earth itself will perish. Except that right now, he doesn't know that. He can't even remember his own name, let alone the nature of his assignment or how to complete it. All he knows is that he's been asleep for a very, very long time. And he's just been awakened to find himself millions of miles from home, with nothing but two corpses for company.

Compiled by intrepid journalist Neve Pride, this archive of recordings spans the months after dragons emerged on earth, chronicling the communities that sprang up amid the destruction, the scientists, military leaders, and experts searching for a defense, and those steadfastly seeking the missing. Neve and her young daughter Bex travel among the wreckage speaking to those left behind and surviving, against all odds. Neve records everything for history, and in the hopes of locating a clue as to where the dragons came from and how one might stop them.

Wonderful story!
I truly loved this entire story. The magic that kept pulling these two together was shocking in the beginning but truly amazing by the end. I truly would love to live this adventure myself but a girl can only dream sometimes. I definitely recommend this book to everyone who loves Christmas love stories with some magic in the mix.

Not what I expected
I thought going in this would be a fun holiday listen and in some ways it was, I loved the legend and the premise but it was a little sadder than I anticipated and I really wish there was a little more conversation with the MCs. i also wish we more than one POV. Overall I enjoyed the story it was a little groundhogs day but with a twist. Narration was done well.

Enchanting Seasonal Romance
This was my first experience with this author's work, and I thought it was charming. My interest was piqued by the setting in Scotland, and I enjoyed how the author incorporated some of the myths surrounding the Isle of Skye into her story. I liked Emilia and Harry, and their confusion about their feelings were understandable as they had been friends for most of their lives. I enjoyed Mary Phillips' narration as her performance enhanced the story's entertainment. I was given a copy of the audiobook. I volunteered, without financial gain, to post this review which reflected my honest opinions regarding this audiobook.

Groundhog's Day, eat your heart out
Groundhog's Day, eat your heart out.
What happens when best friends take it to the next level? That's the question of the day. But what happens when it doesn't work out the way they'd hoped it would? You end up with a cute little Christmas story that puts you in mind of the movie Groundhog's Day.
Harry and Emilia are such loveable characters that it's such as shame to see them struggle in this book. But complications abound when a time loop sucks them up into a hilarious series of unfortunate events. Will they be able to fix the time loop, or will they be stuck there for all time?
I will warn you, the narration has one character in which you'd rather rip your ears out than listen to her talk. But I'm not sure if it's the narrator herself, or if it's the character that I just couldn't stand (for that voice only... the rest of the voices were great.)

Okay premise, insufferable female lead. GREAT audi
A great concept, though not as well executed as can be.
I wanted to like this—was drawn in by the cover and instantly liked the world and its cute little quicks. However, this read is told from the POV of the female lead and wow, is she awful. I get pining for someone who you seemingly can’t have and all of that but she just drones on and on and on and on about it … saying much of the same things over and over, and even behaving a bit catty at times. It was cringe and I was often overcome by secondhand embarrassment for both, how awful and juvenile this “upper 20-something” (self described) year-old woman whined and carried on nonstop. It basically ruined an otherwise cute story.
Upper 20s FMC.
Holiday vibes.
Scotland.
Magic.
History, castles, playing tourist.
Hoards of OW drama.
Best friends to lovers.
Second-chance romance.
Overall:
This came across to me as a first draft that could use some work, alas, it’s obviously gone to press as is. 3 stars - cutesy world-building, awful character development, which unfortunately took away from the story and world.
🎧 Audio:
The narrator was fantastic—a little breathy, but overall she sounded great and she performed rather than doing that robotic / dictation thing that some do.
Overall sound quality was perfect.
